The SLFP-led UPFA secured 21 out of 23 LG bodies at Saturday’s polls while the UNPwon the Colombo Municipal Council and the government ally, the SLMC, secured the Kalmunai MC, where the TNA came second. -

In the wake Saturday’s shoot-out between gangs led by former PA MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and Colombo District UPFA MP Duminda Silva causing two deaths, including that of Premachandra, the government is under heavy pressure to disarm the Colombo underworld. -
Duminda on ventilator

Colombo District Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who was shot in the head and seriously injured on Saturday evening at Mulleriyawa in a shoot out with rivals within the UPFA, is yet on a ventilator at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

Muzammil tops preference count

The highest number of preference votes at Saturday’s local government election has been obtained by UNP’s Colombo mayor elect A.J.M. Muzammil securing 55,448 votes. The UPFA mayoral candidate for Colombo Milinda Moragoda obtained 32,103 votes.
